The Futures Fund
With support and encouragement from the community, children and youth under the supervision of Peel Children’s Aid can plan for a positive future away from the hardships of abuse and neglect. Peel Children’s Aid Foundation is committed to providing bursaries and other forms of financial support for youths 18-21 with the ambition to pursue further education after high school in order to improve their chance for future success. Bursaries are available for post-secondary education through university or community college and for trade/vocational training. Funding is also sought to provide encouragement to younger youth to stay in school and work towards a post secondary education, by rewarding their scholastic achievements.
The Futures Fund consists of four key program components:
- Bursary Program – Scholarships to aid youth in attaining their dreams through post-secondary education and trade apprenticeship programs.
- Achievement Program – Children in care have a much higher drop-out rate than the provincial average. This program recognizes students in grades 7 to 11 for scholastic improvement, and encourages them to stay in school by providing a contribution to a Registered Education Savings Plan in their name.
- Skills for Success Program – There are many skills required to make a successful transition to adulthood, and most of us are fortunate enough to learn them from our parents. The Skills for Success Program provides workshops for youth under the supervision of Peel Children’s Aid, to assist in developing these skills. Workshops are developed in partnership with corporate sponsors and offer special training in such diverse topics as money management, job search and interview skills, etiquette for the modern world, and simple, healthy cooking on a budget.
- Tools for Learning Program – Supplying backpacks, lined paper, notebooks, binders, protractor sets, calculators, crayons and markers, etc., for financially disadvantaged children and youth so they can fully participate in school.
The Foundation accepts donations for other specific programs within the agency that benefit at-risk children and youth. If you would like to donate to a project that is not listed here, please Contact Us.
